Terms of membership

Last updated 2026-10-14

These terms describe how membership of Consortium Investments works.

Membership

Membership is for individuals whose identity we have verified. We may refuse or end a membership where the law or our checks require it. A member can only take part in an item that their verification allows.

What you own

When you buy a share of an item, you own a fraction of that specific item with the other owners, as tenants in common. You receive a document that records your purchase. We are not a bank and we do not hold your money: you pay the vendor, and the vendor pays owners when an item is sold.

Selling an item

An item is sold only if the owners vote for the sale. Votes are weighted by the share each owner holds. The partner firm that holds the item acts on the owners' instructions.

Fees

We charge the vendor a flat commission on each sale, and we charge service fees. We do not charge a fee on profit.

Value and risk

The market value of an item can go down as well as up, and an item may be hard to sell. We make no promise about the value of an item, about what it will sell for, or about when.
